7.-26.05.16: KOM56 – KESH

During one month the British artist KESH stays in Switzerland while intensively working on her very first EP KOM56, which was presented in a series of events in various forms. In two concerts, at Longstreet Bar in Zurich and at Le Bourg in Lausanne, KESH performed the EP before it’s official release for the first time.
In a two day exhibition at the space for independent art TOPIC in Geneva, in-between the two concerts, KESH dissected the EP once again, and re-interpreted the sound fragments anew with an installation in the physical space. This exhibition opened with a live performance.
To conclude to this intense month, the exhibition KOM56 at 1.1 took place, where the artist created an immersive representation of her world.

KESH created an audiovisual installation as a counterpart to the production and presentation of the EP, and thematised what she’s addressing in her music in an alternative form:
KOM56 is the exploration of emotional connectivity. KESH addresses her own self-destruction in an attempt to connect with others suffering from the same plight in various creative languages. She highlights the need to escape one’s feelings of depression and suicidal thoughts caused by self medicating while nonetheless repeating destructive patterns.
In this work, she focuses on healing and an acceptance of emigration to nightlife and subversion.
KESH is a multi-media artist from London (UK), whose work spans from digital art, drawings, prints, 3D animations and experimentation in sound. She first gained global recognition from utilising different social media platforms to display her interactive work. From her teens, KESH was one of the first pioneers to experiment with art and social networks to impact and reach a global audience to share her works, and continuously moved from one platform to the other to adequately host the many facets of herself and her work.
She soon became known for her dark graphic self-portraits and her recognisable individuality.

Moving to London at the age of 17, KESH was heavily involved in the Grime scene working closely with the likes of Skepta, Jammer, Roll Deep and many others and gained notice from international heavyweights like Kanye West and Prince.
KESH then moved on to focus more on her visual art, showing in several solo-exhibitions across the US and collaborating with American Apparel to create a globally celebrated collection utilising her monochromatic angular artworks.

In January, she presented her latest solo-exhibition LJUS2 at the Catherine Ahnell Gallery in New York City.
